This new product is called a “Pressure Pod” System and is especially effective for drawing high carbon steels.

Within the Tungsten Carbide division of the Walson Woodburn Wire Die business, a new product has emerged and is being offered to the industry to support a more efficient and cost effective method of drawing finer gauge steels and steel alloys where they are drawn with dry soap as the lubricant – and it is especially effective for drawing high carbon steels. This new product is called a “Pressure Pod” System.
The PRESSURE DIE is one of most recent innovations in the world of wire drawing dies. As the wire is being processed through the “Pressure pod system”, the dry soap becomes heated and subsequently pressurized inside the specially designed pod/case. This process then causes the lubricant to attach to the wire surface as a thin film rather than as a dry powder. As the coated wire enters the Tungsten Carbide draw insert, the pressurized lubricant allows drawing speeds to be increased by 25% to 30% in many instances compared to using regular shrink fitted TC Dies. Along with the higher drawing speeds being seen, better die life is also an advantage due to the improved lubricating values of the soap.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
These dies have three parts: (1) Pressure Pod, (2) Pressure Insert, and (3) Draw Insert
PRESSURE POD:
a) Made of Stainless Steel Material with Standard OD provided with cooling fins for direct cooling die box, and, with tapered OD without fins for indirect cooling die box.
b) Sizes can be customized and are available in standard and Tapered OD.
c) Are identical and can adopt all sizes of Draw inserts and Pressure inserts.
d) Doesn’t require replacing unless it gets damaged due to mishandling – thus its life is very high.
e) Each Pressure Pod is marked with unique ID for excellent traceability.
PRESSURE INSERT:
a) Superior raw material of Tungsten Carbide.
b) OD and height are identical and can fit in any Pressure Pod.
c) Wire doesn’t come in contact. Only lubricant comes in contact so the insert life is very high and does not require change frequently.
d) Easy replacement.
DRAW INSERT:
a) Superior raw material from Sandvik, ensures superior performance
b) Taper OD and height are identical and can fit in any Pressure Pod.
c) Better die life and surface finish of drawn wire
d) Each draw insert is marked with unique ID for excellent traceability.
e) Inspection Report and Quality Certificate with each insert – if requested.
f) Substantially reduces freight costs when only the inserts are being transported.
