The Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), the country’s sole power distributor, said that the country needs roughly VND 90 trillion (USD 4 billion) to upgrade its power transmission network from now to 2015.
The money will be used to build and upgrade lines and transformer stations to mitigate power loss, which is about 9% currently, the group said.
Though Vietnam is able to produce sufficient electricity, transmission is inefficient, which makes the supply of electricity unstable. Vietnam’s transmission network is currently overloaded as its southern region is consuming the electricity transmitted from the north through the 500-kV line.
