Tripura demands transmission network for power evacuation

8 August, 2011

Tripura has demanded erection of transmission line for evacuation of power to be generated in ONGC Tripura Power Company’s (OTPC) 720 MW Palatana project next year. The state government has also been urging for an alternative power evacuation network through Bangladesh from Palatana site following repeated demands from the government of that country. Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) of North East Regional Power Committee (NERPC) in recent meeting weighed the feasibility of an alternative line from Tripura to other NER states.

With the commissioning of OTPC, the state would have surplus electricity while a power plant is underway at Bongaigaon in Assam. Tripura has demanded a separate power grid in the state to manage the surplus electricity. Meanwhile, OTPC Chairman and Managing Director, S K Dubey said, for the third time the by-passes over the rivers are being made and at the moment the by-pass road link on River Titas in Bangladesh were underway. He said the machines this time would pass through by-passes immediately after the by-pass was ready.
