The total installed capacity of NTPC has increased to 39,674 MW with the commissioning of the third 500 MW unit of at its Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Jhajjar. NTPC presently has over 16,000 MW capacity under construction in different parts of the country.
The board of directors of NTPC has also approved an investment for the first stage 1,600 MW of the Lara Super Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh recently. The first stage of the Lara Project having two units of 800 MW each is to be implemented at estimated cost of Rs 11,846 crore. The project shall have an ultimate capacity of 4,000 MW. Electricity generated from the Lara project shall be supplied to Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Goa.
