Top cable Companies in India 2020

feat

A signature issue – a veritable feature of information on India’s prominent wire and cable companies; and for the purpose of benchmarking, Wire & Cable India presents its fifth in the series of Top Cable Companies, the first was introduced back in 2012.

The wire and cable industry has come a long way since then, there has been a multitude of changes and at the same time, new opportunities are being created with the increase in the demand for reliable and efficient energy transmission and distribution. Thus, we present a structured and comprehensive report that could provide useful insights as it emphasizes the key parameters of the listed companies apposite to its growth, that needs to be taken into account for identifying the top players in the sector.

The push for the integration of Industry 4.0 technology has led and will continue to lead to the adoption and installation of increasingly complex equipment and systems. The demanding environments these products are exposed to necessitate the use of sophisticated wires and cables, thus, propelling the growth of the wire and cable market. Most of all, increasing investments in transmission and distribution of electric power and notable growth in the demand from data centers and the telecom industry are the crucial factors which are expected to drive the growth of the wire and cable sector.

The demand for building wires and power cables is going to be spurred by government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya scheme) and ‘Power for All’, focusing on electrification of rural households and T&D efficiencies, as well as an increase in cabling demand from commercial establishments and public utilities. In fact, the building wiring cables segment that comprises of the wires and cables required for wiring of residential buildings contributes to a major portion of the demand, followed by shops and offices.

Leveraging the opportunities emerging with growing infrastructure

As we are ushering into a new era of growing transport infrastructure – comprising of airports, seaports, and rail and road network, coupled with the expansion of metro rail and real estate – is an affirmative influence for the further growth of the sector. Presently, there are more than six airport development projects announced by the Airports Authority of India. Also, the railway station redevelopment program, high-speed bullet train corridor, dedicated freight corridor project – are some of the significant developments that have pushed the growth rate exponentially.

Considering the extensive applications of sophisticated wires and cables in the defence sector and the growing focus of the Indian Government to enhance its investment in the same –makes the overall environment of the cable and wire sector more conducive as there has been a notable growth of the infrastructure of segments such as– defence, aviation, transport, and real estate, to name a few.

Moving ahead with a forward-looking approach

It should be noted that the government has been making significant investments toward the expansion of smart grid infrastructure due to growing electricity demand from commercial and residential establishments. Besides, modernization of the grid networks through the integration of innovative technologies, and equipment, further augurs well for the sector.

Also, there have been many initiatives spearheaded by the government – ‘BharatNet’ and ‘Ghar Tak Fibre’ which marks a step towards the PM’s announcement in August 2020, that all six lakh villages in India will be connected with optical fibre internet in the next 1,000 days, i.e. by 2024. In Tier-I cities, a prominent rise in demand and the sheer dearth of open spaces to set up towers, along with increasing demand from projects like the expansion of the metro rail has pushed the demand further for EHV underground cables.

At an overall level, the Indian cable and wire sector has been gradually moving from being a largely unorganized sector comprising smaller regional players towards an organized sector comprising PAN-India key players across all categories. We believe that the growth in the coming years would be led by new product introduction, strong demand for optic fibre network, and the ongoing expansion of the power grid and distribution network.

Competitive Landscape in the Wire and Cable Sector

Wire & Cable India’s Top Cable Companies in India is a biennial survey of wire and cable manufacturing companies of India to come up with a comprehensive report based on various key parameters. The fifth in the series is a detailed list of India’s prominent wire and cable companies, as decided by production, turnover, net profit, growth rate (in both turnover and net profit), and net worth. We use a composite score that keeps into account these five metrics equally, as one metric alone would present an inaccurate assessment. Further, the said five parameters are the basis of our ranking calculation as these are objective and quantitative in nature. This year’s report, the fifth by Wire & Cable India, takes a deep dive into the state of the country’s largest manufacturers in the sector.

We have featured in this article the top cable manufacturers in India — companies that are known for their commitment to quality and their relentless efforts towards innovation, and are expanding their global footprint whilst showing promising growth potential.

It may be mentioned that this list has been compiled based on the data directly sent to us by the companies and the data we have acquired from the annual reports released by the companies. Wire & Cable India at its best possible approach attempted to accumulate data from the companies, however, some of the companies could not be included in the “Top Cable Companies in India 2020 Special Feature” due to unavailability of the data or information from the companies.
