The existing overhead power lines in the Greater Hyderabad region are set to be replaced with underground (UG) cables as part of an infrastructure upgrade.
The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has commenced the process of replacing overhead lines with UG cables within the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The project aims to enhance public safety, improve operational efficiency and elevate the city’s aesthetic appeal, ultimately positioning Hyderabad as a global city, according to TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Ali Faruqui.
To carry out these works, TGSPDCL plans to collaborate with private sector experts, covering the entire area within the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The TGSPDCL plans to implement the underground cabling project under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) or another suitable funding model. The scope of work includes conducting surveys and feasibility studies, design and engineering, procurement and installation, integration with the existing infrastructure, testing and commissioning, as well as operations and maintenance (O&M).
