Tamil Nadu’s INR 100 Crore Plan to Provide Affordable Internet Services Via Cables Lines

Tamil Nadu’s state government has plans to offer affordable and reliable high-speed internet services to Tamil Nadu households through using local cable operators’ networks. This plan will be funded through taking loans of nearly INR 100 crore from the public or open market.

Information minister Mr. Mano Thangaraj recently shared Tamil Nadu’s state government’s plans to use local cable operators’ networks for providing affordable and reliable high-speed internet services to Tamil Nadu households. The minister stated that the aim of the initiative is to bridge the digital divide and create a digital revolution and that this step will serve as a catalyst in taking government services to people’s homes. This plan will be funded through taking loans of nearly INR 100 crore from the public or open market, said Mr. Thangaraj.

The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV formed a subsidiary company on November 5, 2020, called Tamil Nadu Internet and Connectivity Services Limited dedicated to providing affordable internet services to people. Reportedly the required steps will be followed to get the company’s ISP license from the union ministry for communication and information technology.
