Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. has been awarded a contract for for high-voltage underground cables (115kV cross-linked polyethylene insulated vinyl sheath triplex (CVT) cables) from Electricité du Cambodge (EDC), as part of the Phnom Penh City Transmission and Distribution System Expansion Project.
Sumitomo Electric, in cooperation with its partners, Toenec, Siemens Ltd. Thailand will create and expand substations, lay transmission and distribution lines and install power grid control systems. This project is financed by Japanese ODA loans totaling 6.48 billion yen.
For this project, Sumitomo Electric is supplying high-voltage underground cables (115kV CVT cables) connecting substations (total distance: 15 km; total cable length: 20 km). The CVT cable consisting of three stranded single-core cross-linked polyethylene insulated vinyl sheath (CV) cables can reduce the workload and spaces required for installation compared with single-core CV cable. The stranded cable can also mitigate thermal behavior inherent to power cable and eliminate part of installation process.
