In 2016, the electrified railway tracks were 200 route km which has now increased to 1734 route km out of a total of 3566 route km in the South Western Railway network.

The South Western Railway (SWR) zone of the Indian Railways has achieved the electrification of 511.7 route km which is greater than the target set by the Railway Board, that is, of 459 route km for FY 2021-22.
In the FY 2020-21, the South Western Railway zone had completed 476.7 route km of electrification of its network, as per the information shared by the Ministry of Railways.

In March 2022, the railway sections in the SWR zone that have been commissioned after electrification are: Yelahanka – Chikkaballapur (45 route km), Sivadi – Omluru (44 route km), Tumakuru – Nitturu (27 route km), Kudachi – Ghataprabha (47 route km), Gadag – Hole Alur (48 route km), Hosadurga – Chikjajur (30 route km), Alnavar – Ambewadi (26 route km) and Londa – Tinaighat (11 route km).
Mr. Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager of South Western Railway, has asserted that close coordination and cooperation between the rail divisions and among Operations Department and Electrical Department has made the timely availability of line blocks to erect electrical infra possible. Moreover, he also lauded the efforts of RVNL, CORE, and PGCIL – the executing agencies of electrification.
