Singapore-based global asset manager Keppel is holding discussions with Sovico Group, a Vietnamese conglomerate, to build a new undersea fiber-optic cable worth USD 150 million that would boost the data centre industry of SouthEast Asia.
The project would directly link Vietnam with Singapore, a critical regional hub for data infrastructure.

As per media reports, two plans are currently under discussion. While Keppel is reportedly favouring a larger consortium-led project extending from Singapore to Japan, Sovico is looking forward to a direct cable.
Keppel is preferring an ambitious cable plan involving a consortium of investors. It wants to connect Vietnam through a cable developed by Sovico, which would be an offshoot of a longer cable. The longer cable would run from Singapore to Japan with links to countries along the route.

On the other hand, Sovico plans to link Vietnam directly with Singapore using an undersea cable worth USD 150 million.
Though the discussions are ongoing, no agreement has been reached yet between the companies.
