Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam has received Nepal’s approval to develop the second hydropower project in the country. According to reports, the draft project development agreement (PDA) was approved by the Investment Board Nepal (IBN), who approved INR 92.68 billion investment for the development of the project in a previous meeting.

Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Limited has received the approval from Nepal for the development of a second hydropower project in the country. As per an official statement, a meeting of the Investment Board Nepal (IBN) chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” approved the draft project development agreement (PDA) to be signed with India’s state-owned SJVN to develop the 669-megawatt (MW) Lower Arun Hydropower project in eastern Nepal.

SJVN is currently developing a 900 MW hydroelectric project, Arun-III, located on the Arun River in Eastern Nepal with completion scheduled in 2024. The three projects will generate nearly 2,300 MW of electricity from the river in Sankhuwasabha district, according to reports. The previous meeting of the IBN had approved INR 92.68 billion investment for the development of the project. The IBN gave a statement saying, “The development of this 669-MW transformative project will prove to be a milestone for the socio-economic development of the country.”
