The market footprint for us in India has been pretty good so far with more than 150 complete lines delivered since the last 20 years.
Wire & Cable India interviewed Mr. Rene Stoeckl, Sales Director at Rosendahl Nextrom GmbH, wherein he presents a brief rundown of the company, product range, presence in the Indian market and how the pandemic has brought some unprecedented challenges and the future plans of the company.
Excerpts:
Wire & Cable India: For almost 20 years now, you have been working at Rosendahl. What is it that binds you to Rosendahl? How have you added value to your organisation and contributed to your team?
Rosendahl Nextrom is globally acclaimed for its extrusion technology and optical fiber solutions.
Rene Stoeckl: What I like most about Rosendahl Nextrom is its strong and positive team spirit. It is a company that values personal relations besides doing a good job. Even after 20 years, it is a great pleasure to work for Rosendahl Nextrom. The technology and the demand in the wire and cable industry have changed quite a lot within two decades. In response to and anticipation of the changing market trends, the cable and wire manufacturing industry has the opportunity to expand and enhance many key operations. I have always been enthusiastic about all these market developments and trends, and furthermore, I think that a positive mindset and motivation always adds value and works wonders in an organization.
WCI: What is your idea of a positive business relationship?
RS: I see positive business relationship as a win-win situation for both sides. It is much more than just discussing about an eventual project. We have found mutual business most successful when it involves sharing of ideas with each other as it enables us to create the best possible customized solutions for exactly what is needed. Also, this gives a clear indication of where it is appropriate to spend more time and resources for the completion of a project or venture.
WCI: What are the core competencies of your company? Could you tell us a little bit about your product range?
India is a huge country which is still investing in the infrastructure. We believe that growth in this market is likely to continue in the post Pandemic recession.
RS: Rosendahl Nextrom is globally acclaimed for its extrusion technology and optical fiber solutions. The two distinct divisions of the Knill Gruppe – Rosendahl and Nextrom- both of them have a very sturdy reach in the market and are very notable names in the wire and cable and optic fibre cable industry. In the matter of our core strengths, providing solutions for Datacom and power cable extrusion are certainly two of the chief capabilities of ‘Rosendahl’. The fibre glass preforms, fibre draw and fiber optic cable solutions are the key products from Nextrom brand.
WCI: Could you tell us a bit about your newly installed RH-W test line?
RS: The new RH-W test line has been recently installed in Pischelsdorf, Austria. It sheathes HV and EHV cables with a welding tube diameter of up to 200 mm. The production of such a cable is very demanding, since the cable is, on the one hand, large and heavy, and on the other hand, has to meet certain requirements such as – a high resistance to lateral pressure, which is achieved by corrugation. Copper, aluminium, and stainless-steel tapes are preferably used for the metal sheath. Major improvements have been undertaken regarding the welding unit and the system parameters over the recent months.
WCI: Could you tell us about the market footprint of your company in India? How do you look forward to the Indian market?
RS: The market footprint for us in India has been pretty good so far with more than 150 complete lines delivered since the last 20 years. The Indian market is one of the key markets for us and that is why we have local sales and services support based in the country.
WCI: From first contact onwards, you provide customized high-quality solutions and personal support to ensure total customer satisfaction. How do you strike a balance between quality and price?
The markets globally will be slow for the FY 2020 and even for first half of 2021 unless they are specifically driven by some time-based projects.
RS: It is very tempting to just consider the purchasing price of a product. However, in the context of the wire extrusion sector, the costs of operation are much substantial that are ensued from the scrap rates, maintenance, change-over times, and downtimes due to reparations- being a few of the parameters that have a negative impact on the overall balance. When considering the total operating costs, these costs also determines the overall operating cost in the expected life-time of the machinery. Therefore, we count on high quality and efficiency as the key factors which help in keeping the operating costs low. Rosendahl Nextrom is one of the few suppliers, if not the only one, which is consistently manufacturing in Europe, keeping in mind the eventual goal to connect to our customers with our quality solutions for the industry.
WCI: Amid the anti-China sentiment prevailing in the world, do you think that manufacturing companies in the west would like to have their base in India? Also, what are the trends that you foresee in the wire and cable business across the world, especially in India, in the next 5 years?
RS: We see this sentiment prevailing for now, but we have seen in the past that such sentiments do not really endure. The markets globally will be slow for the FY 2020 and even for first half of 2021 unless they are specifically driven by some time-based projects. India is a huge country which is still investing in the infrastructure. We believe that growth in this market is likely to continue in the post Pandemic recession. Rosendahl Nextrom wants to be there for its partners as and when they need us.
WCI: Considering the COVID-19 pandemic, how successful do you think the exhibitions will be in current financial year and the coming times?
RS: Exhibitions might not be well attended in the coming few months. We feel that most of the people would like to avoid attending exhibitions for some time. It could take some time for the confidence to be restored in people that all is well and it is safe to attend large public gatherings.
WCI: What are your goals for the future going forward?
RS: We wish to continue to serve the wire and cable market globally. We shall keep up our R&D and work on new solutions for our partners. We wish to inform all our customers and partners in India and all over the world that we are there for them. As our motto says: Here for You.
