REC to qualify developers for 220 kV project

REC Transmission Projects Company Limited (RECTPCL), subsidiary of state-owned Rural Electricity Corporation (REC) has begun the qualification process for the selection of a transmission service provider (TSP) for the 220 kV Bira-Siul hydro electric power (HEP) – Sarna double-circuit transmission system. The TSP will be selected through a tariff-based competitive bidding process and would develop the project on a build, own, operate and maintain (BOOM) basis.

The project is among those identified by the Ministry of Power to be awarded though tariff-based competitive bidding to promote private sector participation. The RfQ stage will be followed by the Request for Proposal (RfP). The selected contractors will be awarded a 35-year concession. Along with RECTPCL, PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL), which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation (PFC) Limited, is the bid process coordinator (BPC) for the award of these projects.

In addition to this project, the tender process is underway for the selection of TSPs for another six projects – transmission system for the evacuation of power from Kudgi TPS; system strengthening in southern region for import of power from eastern region; transmission system for connectivity for NCC Power Projects Limited; and transmission system associated with degeneration thermal power station (DGEN TPS) of Torrent Power Limited; part associated transmission system of Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant (RAPP) units 7&8 project; and eastern region system strengthening scheme-VII project.
