Mr. Steve Mepsted, Managing and Sales Director, PWM Limited shares insights about the contributions they are making in innovating the wire & cable industry’s ever growing demands. They have recently introduced a new cold welder specifically for trapezoidal wire and another series for welding strips as thin as 0.25mm.
As a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of cold welding equipment for over 40 years, we have always focused on developing products to meet the requirements of wire and cable manufacturers worldwide, says Mr. Steve. As energy and material costs continue to rise, manufacturers need robust, reliable machines that will improve productivity, reduce operating costs and minimise waste.
Responding to the growth in the cable industry, PWM has introduced a new cold welder specifically for trapezoidal wire. The TR45, for nonferrous trapezoidal material up to 45mm² cross-sectional area, is energy-efficient, user-friendly and mobile. It can be moved easily to the work area, saving effort and reducing downtime. Another recent PWM innovation is the ST40 cold welder for a welding strip as thin as 0.25mm. Reducing energy consumption is a big issue for manufacturers.

Mr. Steve adds, we offer a large range of manually-powered cold welders, and our powered models are driven by advanced pneumatic or hydraulic systems, so use only small amounts of electrical energy compared with electrical butt welders. We make our precision-engineered cold welders and dies in-house and test them thoroughly to ensure they produce strong, reliable welds and minimise waste.
In addition, our machines are designed to be clean, user-friendly and low maintenance. Our comprehensive product portfolio now consists of 16 machines, for cold welding round wire, rod and profile, with capacities ranging from 0.10mm diameter to 30mm diameter. We produce both industry standard and custom-made cold welding dies.
