Installation and completion of the project are scheduled for 2021.

Prysmian Group has been awarded a contract worth in excess of €100 million by EDF Renewables for the development of submarine and land power cable systems to connect the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) offshore wind farm to the Scottish mainland power grid.

The NnG offshore wind farm, located 15.5 km off the Fife coast, will generate 450 MW of green and renewable energy to supply clean and cost-competitive power to around 375,000 Scottish homes.

Prysmian will provide its comprehensive turn-key approach for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of two HVAC 220 kV three-core extruded export submarine cables with single-wire armoring which will reach land at Thorntonloch beach in East Lothian, Scotland. Prysmian will also provide two 220 kV extruded land cables circuits that will link the landfall area to the substation at Crystal Rig and two 400 kV extruded land cables circuits to link the Crystal Rig substation to the Scottish Power’s substation. The project will cover a submarine cables route of 38 km and underground cables route of around 12 km.

Submarine cables will be produced at Prysmian’s centre of excellence in Pikkala (Finland) and installed in 2021, while land cables will be manufactured in Gron (France) and installed in 2020 and 2021. The offshore cable operations will be performed with one of Prysmian Group’s state-of-the-art cable laying vessels.
