India’s power grid network is expected to be more future-ready and insulated from cyber attacks, as per the views expressed by the Union Minister of Power R.K. Singh. As published in a leading news daily – the cyber attract threat is a major concern and the government has been making efforts to mitigate these challenges. With the Electricity Amendment Bill 2022, the Ministry of Power is making a provision for the inspection of the national power grid so as to maintain cyber hygiene in the power network.
According to the PTI report, the minister informed that the power grid network has been facing cyber-attacks. In order to mitigate these challenges and resolve these threats, the grids have initiated a safeguard which requires regular inspections.

He further added that due to these challenges, the ministry has been looking to empower the central (national) load dispatch centre so that it can do inspections and give directions. Since there is one grid in the country, it is all the more important to consider the safety of the grid and one small issue in one corner of the nation can cause major disruptions.

The Electricity Amendment Bill provides for amending section 26 of the Act so as to strengthen the functioning of the National Load Despatch Centre for the protection of the power grid and for the economic and efficient operation of the power sector of the nation.
