Orient Cables, started in 2002, is a major manufacturer of a wide range of cables like – datacom cables, CCTV cables, coaxial cables, optical fibre cables, control cables, power cables, and instrumentation cables. Moving ahead, the Company would maintain its focus on utilizing its network expansion in India and overseas. Having undertaken the backward integration of the in-house manufacturing of PVC compounds, Orient Cables strives to maintain its market positioning to keep up with the constantly evolving market dynamics. Mr. Vipul Nagpal, Founder and Managing Director, Orient Cables India (P) Ltd., outlines the recent developments, market presence plans and key growth trends in the wire & cable industry.
New innovations and recent developments
Adding new products and innovations is a constant endeavour at Orient Cables. We are always on the lookout for new opportunities to add to our product lines and increase our outreach to serve more customers. In the optical fibre space, we have added CPRI/spiral armoured cables in single and multimode fibre which are extensively used in 4G and 5G deployments. In copper cables, we have added fire alarm cables, AISG cables, and speaker cables. Also, we’ve added CAT-6a complying with the latest horizontal performance specifications of ANSI/TIA 568.2-D including AXT, 28 AWG thin CAT-6, and a no-spline version of CAT-6.
We worked towards networking cable capacity enhancement in 2022. For next year, we are focussing more on the utilization of this expanded capacity in India and overseas. We’ve also done backward integration towards in-house manufacturing of PVC compounds which has resulted in improved quality and consistency of PVC. We have consolidated the production of one of our major product lines in one location, resulting in improved efficiency, and quality control.
Over the years, we’ve realized that to maintain an edge and to keep up with the constantly changing and demanding market, we need to keep innovations alive. A lot of effort goes into this direction in working with cross-functional teams on how to improve the existing products and add new variants. A culture of appreciating and rewarding new innovations is actively created in our organization. It is evident with the results that we’ve been able to introduce several new products and improvements in 2022.
Market expansion plans for 2023
We believe that India is presently in a unique space globally – both for its robust internal demand and also as the world look for a China+1 alternative. We plan to actively engage with existing and new customers to increase our reach and consolidate our relationships. We’re also looking forward to allocating time and budgets for branding – in India and overseas by means of digital and print media, and physical presence at trade fairs & expos. Moreover, we’re actively working with several new customers in the telecom and IT sector for which we expect that the results will show in 2023.

Defining trends driving growth & demand in the year ahead
Opening of markets after COVID-19, new residential constructions & commercial spaces will be some of the major growth drivers for 2023. 5G and 4G deployments will also give a push to the telecom hardware industry which has been in a state of slowdown for the past few years. A major share of investments is allocated by telecom operators in India to increase the coverage of 5G, which will trickle down to robust demand for all telecom products. Wireless and high-bandwidth 5G also poses to cut into the market for copper networking which we are closely watching. Globally speaking, the world is looking at India as a reliable and alternative supply chain solution for various products. Thus, anyone who can capitalize on this wave will surely benefit.
