Orient Cables (India) Limited is set to serve the emerging sectors of solar, wind, automotive, rolling stock and aerospace with its new plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, which will soon commence production of E-Beam irradiated cables. The company is also planning to expand its reach in the overseas markets. Mr. Vipul Nagpal, Founder and Managing Director, Orient Cables (India) Limited, revealed this and much more during an exclusive interaction with Wire & Cable India.

Wire & Cable India: Please share an overview of Orient Cables (India) Limited and its journey in the wire and cable industry. How has the company grown over the years?
Vipul Nagpal: Since 2002, Orient Cables (India) Limited has been a leading manufacturer and exporter of an extensive range of specialty cables. With a team of dedicated professionals and experts in R&D, product development, quality control and manufacturing, Orient Cables (India) Limited has built an unparalleled reputation and acceptance in Indian and global markets.
The growth started as a bootstrapped business with very humble beginnings from Prahladpur / Narela in Delhi in 2002. Early focus on IT and telecom set the DNA of the company in specialised and high complexity cables. The company has clocked a revenue CAGR of over 30 percent since 2002. In the past 23 years, we have grown from a small factory in Prahladpur, Delhi to multiple units in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan and offices in Gurgaon & Dubai.
WCI: Innovation plays a crucial role in the wire and cable industry. How does Orient Cables (India) Limited incorporate technological advancements into its manufacturing process?
VN: Investment into the latest technologies always helped us stay ahead of the curve. Sharp focus on bringing value for money to customers without compromising on quality have been the cornerstones of our company.
Competing with strong domestic and international players always pushed us to adopt the latest and most efficient equipment. More than 90 percent of our processing lines are imported from countries like the US, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Canada and China. Our labs are equipped with best in class and calibrated test equipment, enabling them to accurately measure physical, optical and electrical characteristics of cables, allowing innovation and efficiency.

WCI: What is the current product range offered by Orient Cables (India) Limited? Are there any new product categories or offerings you plan to introduce in the near future?
VN: Our product portfolio comprises networking cables; optical fiber cables; copper & fiber terminated assemblies; coaxial cables; telecommunication cables; and power, control & instrumentation cables. We also manufacture passive networking components such as keystone jacks, face plates, gang boxes and patch panels, along with power strips and molded power cords. Our upcoming products include Electron Beam (E-Beam) irradiated cables for use in sectors such as solar, wind, automotive, rolling stock and aerospace.

WCI: Orient Cables (India) Limited has built a strong reputation in the industry. Are there any expansion plans, in terms of infrastructure and market reach?
VN: We have added significant capacities across our verticals in the last one year. We have also set up a new plant in Bhiwadi which became functional recently. Our E-Beam irradiation facility will be housed in the same plant. Our focus in the coming year will be to consolidate our market across all our verticals- to expand the market reach, not only within India, but also to the overseas markets. It will be a challenging year to get the new E-Beam set-up ready and take footsteps into this new market.

WCI: How is Orient Cables (India) Limited addressing sustainability within its production processes and product offerings?
VN: Orient Cables (India) Limited is committed to promoting responsible corporate practices and integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across all facets of our operations. This ensures that every decision we make fosters long-term positive impact. Some of the steps we have taken in the past few years for sustainable growth and societal well-being include the use of recycled water for our cooling processes, which saves fresh water and energy. Our rooftop solar panels supply close to 1.5MW of clean energy to augment the total demand from the grid. The backup generators are equipped to use low polluting gas in place of diesel. We have a robust CSR program geared to promote education, health, elderly care, green forestation, and art, through helping marginalized segments of the society in our region.
WCI: How do you foresee the wire and cable industry evolving over the next 5-10 years? What role do you see Orient Cables (India) Limited playing in that evolution?
VN: The industry will definitely grow globally over the next 5-10 years across various verticals. This growth will range averagely from 5 to 15 percent per annum depending on the vertical. The trend will be towards automation, industry 4.0 and possibly robotics. Scale will matter a lot to bring down costs. Precision and quality will be even more important.
