Repair-related work costing about INR 8-9 crore will be taken up by MESTCL in the Pune region towards the repair and maintenance of insulators.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (MSETCL) will take up repair-related works of transmission lines in Pune. The state transmission utility will prepare an elaborate plan of action regarding the renovation and upgradation of the interconnected power lines from the extra HV substations located in Lonikand, Chakan, and Talegaon which are over 45-50 years old, said Anil Kolap, Director Operations, MSETCL.
Mr. Kolap also added that the utility will also have to replace some insulators that are used in the power lines apart from taking up a thorough periodic routine cleaning of the power lines.

The technical glitch due to insulator ‘decapping’ or failure in the 400 kV lines supplying power to Chakan and Lonikand sub stations resulted in a power outage in several areas of Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and rural parts of the district on Wednesday.

MSETCL officials also informed that apart from preventive maintenance, insulator, and transmission line cleaning, some measures will be taken to prevent such outages do not occur. In addition, repair-related work costing about INR 8-9 crore will be taken up in the Pune region towards the repair and maintenance of insulators. The focus will be on preventive maintenance instead of the patch by patch work, Kolap said.
