More exhibition space booked for wire 2012

Wire logoIn a few weeks that time will come round again: The leading international trade fairs for the wire, cable and pipe and tube segments will be presenting their world innovations in Düsseldorf. Trade visitors from all over the world are expected.
Those manufacturing, processing and trading in these sectors of industry must not miss out on this opportunity to exhibit in Düsseldorf. Boasting a total of 2,442 (correct as of 2/12) exhibitors wire 2012 and Tube 2012 are set to make another powerful appearance in the halls of Düsseldorf’s exhibition centre. At present, over 107,000 square metres of net exhibition space are occupied.
As early as eight weeks before the start of the trade fairs both events are seeing an impressive rise in exhibition space.
wire posts 10.4% more space and Tube 8.8%. Once you have exhibited in Düsseldorf you quickly realise how important a high-impact exposure for innovations is. This also includes a corresponding exhibition stand. As a result, this year sees many companies expanding their footprint since they are now seeking even more exposure than before.

Beta LaserMike Brings New 3-Axis Fault Detection and Lay Length Measurement Solutions to Wire Dusseldorf 2012

LN3015 LayScan
LN3015 LayScan

Beta LaserMike, a leading global provider of precision measurement and control solutions, will debut its new three-axis LN Detector (Lump & Neckdown) and LayScan measurement system to the international wire and cable community at Wire Dusseldorf 2012, March 26 – 30. Beta LaserMike is located in Hall 11, Stand A78.

This advanced, compact system provides more precise detection of short-term faults (lump and neckdowns) in the product diameter than two-axis systems. The three-axis scanning system offers a higher degree of coverage around the product’s circumference to instantly detect sudden changes in the surface. The LN Detector can measure products up to 15 mm (.59 in) in diameter at line speeds up to 3000 m/min (9842 ft/min). It can accept a range of inputs including length encoder, tachometer, line start/stop, and clear faults and can be connected to a host PC or PLC using Ethernet IP, Devicenet, Profibus, and Profinet. Data capture capabilities enable you to report critical process information such as height, length, number, and location of the flaw.

Beta LaserMike’s will also show its new LayScan measurement system (patent pending). This innovative gauge accurately and consistently measures the lay length of twisted pairs used in telecommunication cables. The system uses optical, non-contact measurement technology to perform on-line, high-speed lay length measurements with accuracies to 0.0254 mm (0.001 inch). LayScan provides high-data rate capabilities to precisely determine the variations in lay length within each lay. Systematic lay variations that are typically caused by twinning and cabling operations can be readily observed and measured. A data acquisition system effectively collects and processes the lay length data and reports the measurement results.

In addition, Beta LaserMike will exhibit the following non-contact measurement and controls solutions:

  • CenterScan 2010 eccentricity measurement system
  • AccuScan diameter gauge
  • LaserSpeed length and speed gauge
  • High-Frequency Spark Tester and Pre-heater systems
  • BenchMike table-top cut sample measurement system
  • DataPro process controller and data management system
  • SRL Pro on-line structural return loss (SRL) prediction and analysis system.

Ecoplants: SMS Meer presents new sustainability concept

ecoplants 800 01Rising costs for energy and raw materials, stricter regulations on environmental protection. SMS Meer will be presenting its new sustainability concept at its stand (Hall 7a, Stand B15/16) at this year’s Tube & wire: In future, particular focus will be placed on product innovations, known as “ecoplants”, which bring both ecological and economic factors into harmony with each other.

SMS Meer ecoplants enable customers to save energy, reduce emissions and thus act in a responsible manner. At the same time, they offer good opportunities for generating more sales and profit.

“Sustainability has become a key factor in our customers’ growth. The market demands environmentally and economically sound solutions, which go hand in hand. This we can achieve with our ecoplants”, explains Dr. Joachim Schönbeck, President of SMS Meer. “Modern plants need to meet more stringent requirements with regard to environmental protection and use of resources. Our ecoplants sustainability concept generates real added value for our customers – in economic terms too.”

Reference plants underline customer benefits in the market

Key benefits of ecoplants are the savings they produce on valuable resources, such as raw materials, energy and operating materials, as well as the reduction in emissions and the significant improvement in the recycling rate. Various reference plants on show at the trade fair are testament to the fact that responsible action and sustainable growth work well together.

Full-range supplier for all customer requirements

As well as introducing its ecoplants solutions, SMS Meer will be using the trade fair to present its extended range of products and services. In addition to SMS Meer, PWS, which specializes in spiral pipe plants, and Elotherm (heat treatment), SMS Concast will also be presenting its products and services at the Tube & wire stand. SMS Concast supplies plants for steel production, metallurgical treatment and continuous casting. With this the SMS Meer business area is able to offer its customers holistic solutions and services from a single source, for example minimills for producing wire rod and sections. The same principle applies to the SMS Meer companies as does to the long-term partnerships fostered by SMS Meer and its customers: Quality unites.

Uhing at Wire 2012 in Düsseldorf

Traversing system automatically ensures a cylindrical winding

To obtain a cylindrical winding in the particularly critical reversing area, Uhing has developed the AVS Traversing Width Controller that does not require any interference-prone optical sensors.

The traversing system used here is the well-known Uhing rolling ring drive featuring pneumatically controlled reversing triggered by a microcontroller. As soon as the AVS detects a dent or bulge in the reversal area, it stores the traversing system position and the type of flaw. In the next traversing strokes, the controller will correct this flaw by adapting the traversing width. The result is an optimally wound cylindrical coil that can be further processed without problems.

The AVS Traversing Width Controller stores parameters for up to 10 different coil types. It is suited for coils with straight or conical flanges and cylindrical or conical cores.

Tensioning and clamping systems – enhanced product range

Uhing showcases sizes ELIII 10 and 40 of the Easylock fast-action clamping system that allows high torques to be transferred to coils and foil rolls on plain shafts. The customer can now choose from lighter and more ergonomic clamping modules in ten different sizes in the 10 to 40 mm diameter range.

Also shown: the U-Clip clamping element that can be used to easily secure coils on plain shafts with diameters from 8 to 30 mm. We also showcase a new magnetic fastening element that mounts on the shaft face and, due to its smooth contours, is ideally suited for dirt-prone areas.

Of course, we will once again show several function models in motion featuring our rolling ring gear classics. One of these models demonstrates how winding and unwinding is possible with the RGK by simply reversing the drive direction.
