DGTR has recommended continuation of anti-dumping duty for five years on certain steel imports from substandard quality inbound shipments from China.

With an approach of trade protectionism, the Ministry of Commerce’s arm – Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has advised the continuation of anti-dumping duty for five years on certain steel imports from China. This is expected to safeguard the domestic manufacturers and user industries of steel products from low-quality inbound shipments from the Southeast Asian country.

As per the notification by DGTR, it was stated there is a likelihood of continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury to the domestic industry in the event of revocation of the existing duty on imports of certain ‘bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coils, of iron or non-alloy steel or alloy steel’ from China.

It said that “The authority recommends continuation of anti-dumping duty on the imports of the subject goods…originating in or exported from the subject country (China) for five years from the date of notification to be issued in this regard by the central government”.

As per the views expressed by DGTR, the recommended duty is the difference between the landed value of the goods and USD 546 per tonne. If the landed value is more than USD 546 per tonne, anti-dumping duty will not be applicable.
