The Lubrizol Corporation announced the launch of a flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) product suitable for medical applications. Developed by Lubrizol LifeScience Polymers, this product is the first of its kind to feature high flame properties, low halogen content and a soft, matte or gloss finish.
In medical applications, a material’s Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) is a critical component. With an LOI of 30, this new TPU product demonstrates excellent flame-retardancy. It also exhibits low smoke and low toxicity, enhancing its suitability for an array of applications, including devices and cables.
A soft, rubber-like flexibility sets this new product apart from other flame-retardant materials. It is available with a matte or gloss finish and can be processed by conventional extrusion or injection molding, according to particular manufacturing specifications.
