The contract is a turn-key project involving delivering cables to construction projects in Jurong

LS Cable & System (LS C&S) announced on June 3 that it won a contract from Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) for a USD 45 million (49.82 billion won) underground cable project. The contract is a turn-key project that involves delivering cables to construction projects in Jurong, the largest petrochemical complex in Southeast Asia.
The underground cables are extra high voltage cables with more than 66 kV buried below ground in the downtown area. Currently, they have been commercialized up to 500kV. Extra high-voltage cables can transmit more electricity than with aerial cables and don’t need transmission towers. However, they are more expensive, so they are often used in the central part of the city.
Since Singapore only uses extra high voltage underground cables that do not require setting up a transmission tower for its electrical grid, they are in high demand in the country. Therefore, there is fierce competition between advanced companies and companies in China and India to win orders for high-value products.
Aggressively targeting the market through its Vietnamese branch LS-VINA from 2010, LS C&S established itself as the main supplier in the electric cable business in Singapore, with a 35 percent market share.
