Carbon fibre is only 1/4th the weight of steel but is 10 times stronger and 7 times more elastic. It is increasingly replacing steel in areas where lightweight and durability are important, such as aircraft, automobiles, and wind power generators.

LS Cable & System has commercialized a communication cable using carbon fibre. The company adopted carbon fibre, a next-generation material that the government is fostering strategically, as the shielding material for protecting the cable. Conventionally, copper or aluminum are used as the shielding materials.
If carbon fibre is used, the cable will be at least 10~20% lighter but will also be at least 30% more flexible and durable. If carbon fibre is applied to automotive wires and cables, weight savings of 20kg to 25kg can be realized per vehicle.
LS C&S has finished preparation for mass-production of LAN cables that will be used for equipment operation and system management in smart factories and buildings and is now trying to apply the new technology to all industrial cables.
