WCI: Kindly share your views on the wires & cables industry’s outlook and market potential.

RS: For the next few decades, there will be a huge business potential in all industries of India. The country has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with a robust GDP growth rate of around 7.8 percent, as compared to many other countries. The nation looks forward to becoming a global manufacturing, designing and innovation hub backed by initiatives such as the Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India for Global campaign, Free Trade Agreements, an investor-friendly Foreign Direct Investment policy and Viksit Bharat by 2047.

I would especially like to mention here the ‘Make in India’ initiative, which was launched by the Government of India in September 2014 and has reshaped the country’s economic model. The initiative created a favorable environment for investment, development of efficient infrastructure, and forging a partnership between the Government and the industry through a positive mindset. It has transformed the country into a major local consumption center, as well as a global manufacturing hub. In essence, the initiative has created a huge demand in the wire and cable industry, artificial leather, garden pipes, PVC compound, lubricants, and paint industries for domestic consumption & for export as well.

Besides, the announcements made in the Interim Budget 2024 such as increase of 11 percent in the capital expenditure to INR 11.11 lakh crore (estimated 3.4 percent of GDP), a new affordable housing scheme for the middle-class, strengthening of electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem through the manufacturing & charging infrastructure, and building of two crore more houses under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojna in the next five years, coupled with a push given to the solar and renewable energy sector, predict a plethora of opportunities for the industry.
With a fast-growing economy, there will be a huge demand for polymer compounds and chlorinated paraffin wax. We are prepared and expanding ourselves to cater to the increasing local and export demand in the coming years.
