JSW Steel Limited had received approval from the Odisha Government to set up a 2,678-acre greenfield integrated steel plant in Rajnagar, Odisha.

JSW Steel Limited’s subsidiary, JSW Utkal Steel Limited, has acquired 2677.80 acres of forest land in Rajnagar, Odisha for setting up a greenfield integrated steel plant. An additional non-forest land of 272.51 acres has also been leased by the Odisha government. This follows the environmental clearance received in 2022 and re-validated in 2023. Earlier, the company had unveiled capex of approximately INR 65,000 crore for the 13.2 million TPA integrated steel plant project which will begin in phase-wise manner once the land is handed over to the company.

The company in a regulatory filing said, “JSW Utkal Steel Ltd (JUSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Steel Ltd received environmental clearance (EC) for setting up of a greenfield Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) of 13.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) crude steel from the Union Ministry of Environment & Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) which was further re-validated by MoEF&CC in September 2023 with additional and modified EC conditions.”
