India’ s First Private Semiconductor Facility Worth INR 14,00 Crore Comes Up in Andhra Pradesh

The cutting-edge facility, to be established at Orvakal mega industrial hub in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, will produce Silicon Carbide (SiC) chips, essential for energy-efficient technologies like electric vehicles and renewable energy.

Indichip Semiconductors Limited, along with JV, Yitoa Micro Technology (YMTL)  signed an agreement with the AP govt to establish India’s first Silicon Carbide manufacturing plant in Kurnool.

In order to contribute to India’s technological advancement and sustainability goals, as well as align with its Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, an indigenous company is setting up the country’s first private semiconductor facility in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of INR 14,000 crore.

Amravati-based Indichip Semiconductors Limited, along with its joint venture partner Yitoa Micro Technology (YMTL) from Japan, recently signed an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish India’s first Silicon Carbide (SiC) manufacturing plant at Orvakal Mega Industrial Hub in Kurnool.

The information was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh. He said the state-of-the-art facility will specialize in producing SiC chips, essential for energy-efficient technologies like electric vehicles and renewable energy. It will initially produce 10,000 wafers per month, scaling up to 50,000 wafers within 2-3 years. The government of Andhra Pradesh will provide land at Orvakal mega industrial hub in Kurnool, along with the necessary infrastructure and ecosystem to make this project a success.

As per Mr. Lokesh, the milestone will propel Andhra Pradesh as a global semiconductor hub, demonstrating the southern state’s ability to attract industries through innovative policies, world-class infrastructure and a focus on nurturing talent. The Andhra Pradesh government was committed to providing seamless support to ensure the project’s success, strengthening India’s position in the global semiconductor ecosystem, he added.
