Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), flagged off ELECRAMA 2016 – World Electricity Forum at a curtain raiser at Hotel Trident in Mumbai. The flagship event is scheduled to be held at Bangalore on February 13-17, 2016 and is slated to be among the world’s biggest showcase of the latest in innovations and technologies in the power sector. ELECRAMA 2016 will provide the industry a worldview on technology, best practices, new systems and forecasting the trends in the future of electricity, both from technology and a socio-economic point of view. ELECRAMA – 2016, will for the first time feature “WORLD UTILITY SUMMIT”, a unique global platform, which will witness eminent experts/ CEOs from around the world sharing their experiences on the evolving global landscape of ELECTRICITY. This will include the economics of Power, demand paradigms, policy and regulation, technology, digitization, smart electricity / cities and the issue of carbon footprint.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Babu Babel, President, IEEMA said, Power theft and billing inefficiency are emerging as major issues faced by the discoms which are reeling under heavy debt burden. We believe innovation, modernisation and effective governance will help discoms reduce these aggregate technical and commercial losses (AT&C). The financial health of discoms can be improved through technology innovations and upgradation of infrastructure, he said. Power thefts are estimated to be around Rs 70,000-100,000 crore, he added. Emphasising the role of electrical equipment manufacturers, he said there is a need for innovation and technology upgradation on their part. Speaking about the power situation in Maharashtra, Babel said the state has reduced its distribution losses to 14 per cent by March 2014 from 22 per cent in 2007-08.
ELECRAMA-2016 Organising Committee Chairman Mr Aaditya Dhoot said, ELECRAMA-2016 will provide key decision makers from the finance sector an opportunity to interact with corporates, industry experts and SMEs from the power sector to understand the opportunities and key challenges in the industry, and is aimed at developing new business associations.
