Hydro, a leading aluminium and renewable energy company, is set to invest USD 151.86 million in a new wire rod cast facility at its aluminium smelter in Karmøy, Norway. Scheduled to begin production in 2028, the facility will supply essential aluminium for Europe’s energy infrastructure.
With an annual capacity of 110,000 tonnes, the cast house represents Hydro’s most significant investment in Norway in a decade. The new casthouse will produce aluminium wire for power cables in Europe, playing a pivotal role in supporting Europe’s energy transition. Aluminium is defined by the EU as a critical material, and Norway currently accounts for 40 percent of the aluminium produced in Europe.
