Wire & Cable India: Can you tell us about your new venture, HM Power and Cables?

Hrithik Agarwal: HM Power & Cables is established in Jharsuguda, Odisha, a key metallurgical hub housing major players like Vedanta and Hindalco. The location offers a distinct logistical advantage due to the easy procurement of aluminium, our primary raw material.

Our initial focus is on scaling up our existing production capacity for cables, conductors, and railway electrification wires, including contact and catenary wires. Over time, we plan to expand into HV cable manufacturing. Currently, our production is centered on low-tension (LT) cables and medium voltage covered conductors (MVCC), aligning with our phased growth strategy.

WCI: Can you please elaborate on what your product lines are and their respective capacities? Going forward, are there any plans to enhance this capacity?

HA: Our product range is categorized into three primary segments: power cables, overhead conductors, and railway electrification (contact and catenary wires). The current installed capacity includes 22,000 km per annum for overhead conductors; 15,000 km per annum for power cables; 6,500 tonnes per annum for contact & catenary wires.
Our approach is to first gain market insights and assess industry dynamics before expanding our production capacity. In the long run, we intend to scale up and enter the HV cable segment.

WCI: Given your strong background with Kritika Wires, how will this experience contribute to the success of your new business?

HA: Kritika Wires’ extensive industry experience provides us with a strong foundation. The target markets for both ventures are similar, primarily consisting of EPC contractors and state electricity boards. Our expertise in customer engagement and supply chain management will be instrumental in establishing HM Power & Cables in this competitive space.

WCI: Are there any new developments in Kritika Wires as well?

HA: Kritika Wires has recently ventured into the production of aluminium wire rods, including both alloy and electrical conductor (EC) variants. This marks a significant step toward deeper integration into the aluminium sector.

WCI: Could you highlight the USPs of HM Power and Cables?

HA: Our competitive edge is derived from three key factors- strategic location, industry expertise, and advanced technology. Proximity to major aluminium producers enhances raw material availability and logistics efficiency. We leverage over 70 years of industry knowledge and 45-50 years of manufacturing experience. We have invested significantly in state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, incorporating automation and the latest technological advancements. This ensures high-quality, cost-effective electrical infrastructure solutions, consistently exceeding industry standards.

WCI: Please tell us about your market footprint, both geographically within India and in export markets? Who are your major clients?

HA: Kritika Wires primarily serves the Indian market, with exports to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Although Kritika Wires has not aggressively pursued exports, HM Power & Cables aims to expand its global presence, focusing on the Middle East and Africa, where infrastructure development is driving strong demand for cables and conductors.

For HM Power & Cables, our target clientele includes state electricity boards and EPC contractors. By establishing a strong foothold in these sectors, we aim to become a key player in the international power and railway electrification markets.
