According to Mr. Rohit Pathak, CEO of Copper Business of Hindalco Industries Limited, the company will invest INR 2,450 crore for two copper projects in Gujarat, including a e-waste recycling facility, which will recover around 50 kilo tonnes of copper in Phase-1, and produce around 200 kilo tonnes of copper annually.
Mr. Pathak said the Phase-1 of the project would entail an investment of INR 2,000 crore, an amount which would be quadrupled in the coming years. The project would help in organizing the scrap collection industry in India, besides increasing the company’s capacity by around 50-60 percent. This would aid in meeting the growing Indian demand for copper, he added.

Mr. Pathak stressed that the recycling plant would produce multi-metals, including copper, silver, gold and other precious metals, reducing Hindalco’s dependence on imports. He mentioned that the company currently imports around 1.3 million tonnes of copper concentrates (containing about 25 percent copper), which fulfills 90 percent of requirement for its smelter plant at Dahej.
