GMP Slovakia produces steel reels, drums and handling equipments and is the leader in the segment. The company’s manufacture includes traditional art machinery and high technology machinery as welding robots. GMP is touted to have a long experience in the wire and cable industry. In 2013, an Indian subsidiary of the company- GMP Reels India Private Limited-was incorporated. The subsidiary has a manufacturing facility in Nashik. Wire & Cable India recently had had a brief communication with Mr. Ruggeneneti Bruno, President, GMP Reels India. Here is the outline:
Wire & Cable India: Give us a brief history of GMP Slovakia and its product offerings.
Ruggeneneti Bruno: GMP Slovakia was founded in 2003 and it is located in Pribenik, Europe.
Last year GMP Slovakia incorporated GMP do Brasil Imp. Exp. Ltda., a trade office in Sao Paolo, and its second manufacturing plant GMP Reels India Private Limited in Nashik. The group also includes a sister company in Italy for special reels and equipments manufacturing. The management is European and cooperating with Indian plant to coordinate both sales and production. All staffs are in the reels business from several years having great know-how.
WCI: Recently, you have invested in state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in India? Give us the idea behind it and the machinery installed at the premises.
RB: The idea to install a plant in India was born two years ago and it became a reality last February. Indian market is very important to us; the only way to cooperate with Indian customers was to install a plant in this growing country. The potential business in India is very interesting and the management has great confidence in the future.
WCI: When do you see this investment as stabilized? What would be your line of action/strategy for this?
RB: GMP Reels India is a young company and we are brand new in the Indian market. Indian customers are cooperating with our group and always give us their help and support. We have already manufactured different reels in India and have a good number of orders too. However, the management would push the production more because we think this market has real potential demanding increased production. Our strategy now is to promote the new plant and introduce GMP Reels India in the Indian market by giving our customers the opportunity to visit our plant and ask us for suggestions about which is the best solution for their application.
WCI: Do you have any plans for partnership with an Indian Company?
RB: Not at the moment.
WCI: Having a long experience and the great know-how behind you. What are your thoughts on the importance of reels and drums for the wire and cable industry? Do companies focus on this aspect?
RB: Unfortunately, many customers (not only Indian, but all customers) do not really understand the great importance which reels and drums they should have in the work process. A good quality machine works better with good quality reels, so it is extremely important to have the perfect know-how. That’s why our Indian operators are continuously trained by our expert European team. The quality of the reel has to be perfect to guarantee a very long life to the machine.
WCI: Tell us something about your customized range of products.
RB: GMP Slovakia range of products includes standard reels and drums. Apart from that the company comes up with customized solutions for a very wide range of products and applications. Our customized solutions include many different out-of-standard items, studied and designed by our technical department to satisfy different customer’s requirements. Customers just need to inform us about their need, and our technical team studies and prepares the perfect solution for their application.
WCI: Has coming to India posed any challenge for your company?
RB: Every new project is a challenge, and this “Indian project” is a very big challenge for us. But we are not afraid of this because our team is composed of great persons, all well prepared and serious. Our customers are giving us excellent support; so we are ready.
