China’s first submarine cable-laying vessel, Longyin No. 9, has been unveiled. The vessel has a loading capacity of 10,000 tonnes and underwater endurance of up to 60 days.

On March 29 in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi, China, Longyin No. 9, a 155-meter vessel for laying submarine communications cables, was unveiled. Longyin No. 9 uses electric propulsion and dynamic positioning technology to lay, bury, and maintain submarine cables and is China’s first submarine cable equipment. Post-outfitting, the vessel is expected to become operational in September 2023.

The vessel can carry 10,000 tonnes of cable load while exploring across the Pacific Ocean from China, and all its systems have been recognized as key technology patents. It has a maximum speed of 15 knots and can endure underwater expeditions for sustainable missions of up to 60 days.

China Classification Society shared a report on its WeChat account, which directs to their certification of the vessel.
