The Assam government has proposed to lay optical fibre cable in the Brahmaputra river up to Kolkata for faster internet connectivity. Recently, cable cuts interrupted the internet operations across the state.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma proposed this project during a media interaction ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit.

The CM said the network will improve internet connectivity to a great extent. It will also avoid disruptions caused by damages to the land-based cables, which are often damaged during construction projects or any other reason.
