The cable is designed to replace traditional static, shield and earth wires on overhead transmission lines

AFL Telecommunications LLC has announced the CentraCore OPGW (optical ground wire) cable, offered with up to 96 fibers in a single stainless steel tube design.
The device features a gel-filled, laser-welded, hermetically sealed stainless steel tube inside of a central aluminum pipe to protect the optical fibers from crushing forces and electrical faults. A layer of aluminum-clad steel or alloy wires are stranded around the central unit to provide protection against environmental stresses.
As the fiber count within the cable changes, the outer diameter remains constant, streamlining hardware selection. The cable is designed to replace traditional static, shield and earth wires on overhead transmission lines and provide a pathway for telecommunications.
