Wire & Cable India magazine recently had a brief chat with Mr. Deepak Bansal, Executive Director, Sawstik Polyvinyls Pvt. Ltd. where he explained about products manufactured and processes adopted. Excerpts:
Wire & Cable India: To start with, tell us briefly about Swastik Polyvinyls.
Deepak Bansal: SPPL is one of the most trusted custom polymer compounder in INDIA. SPPL, founded in the year 1975, is a privately owned company. We are a diversified polymer technology company to serve various specialized and common markets, for automotive, wire & cable, and footwear, etc. With production capacity 18000 MTPA, SPPL provides material science solution to a board range of industries as per customer specification.
WCI: Give us a brief summary of your product portfolio.

WCI: Compounding remain one of the most dynamic segments wherein it does not take much time for a compound to become obsolete. What do you do to stay relevant in this fast changing demand scenario regarding polymers and compounds?
DB: We strongly consider the polymer compound technology as a very dynamic segment. That is why our R&D keeps abreast with the latest developments in polymer compounds for wire and cable applications in the world market and study the corresponding demand in the domestic market. Even if we do not find a reasonable demand of some particular compound in the domestic market at present, our R&D initiates activity on the relevant developments and keeps the technology ready for the future, for example, thermoplastic HFFR compound. Here cracking of cable made with conventional HFFR compound is reported quite often. We at SPPL considered this as a serious concern and developed a series of HFFR compounds which can deliver very flexible cable with additional attributes, e.g., fuel resistance.
WCI: Most of the compounding industry keeps facing the heat of environmental regulations. How does Swastik Polyvinyls perform or strive to perform on these environmental fronts?
DB: To make different compound in our product portfolio, we generally work with temperature sensitive polymers and additives. That is why our compound manufacturing process technology is designed with very controlled process parameters, in terms of temperature profile and shear rate – thereby minimizing environmental temperature rise. Besides this, for complying with the environmental regulation, adequate measure is taken by using the required industrial utilities, i.e., heat exchanger, system for air circulation, etc.
WCI: Any new development on product and process front?
DB: SPPL is actively working on various environmental friendly compound solutions for wire and cable.
