BSNL has announced that they will invest Rs. 7000 crore to set up 3G and 4G Wi-Fi spots across every nook and corner in the country.
While speaking at the TeleAnalysis event in New Delhi, chairman and MD of BSNL Anupam Shrivatava said, “Wi-Fi is an obvious choice for BSNL going forward but it alone cannot be successful. It has to be integrated with 3G, 4G network so that customer can be seamlessly transferred to Wi-Fi. In two to three years, we will be investing Rs.7,000 crore to set up integrated Wi-Fi across the country.”
Sharing the timeline of the development, Anupam shared that by the end of 2015, they will set up 2500 Wi-Fi spots across India. Additionally, BSNL will team up with QuadGen Wireless to work under revenue sharing model in order to set up more Wi-Fi hotspots. They will install 1000 hotspots by June end and 5000 by the end of 2015. In total, it is expected that we will have 7500 Wi-Fi hotspots powered by BSNL by the time 2015 ends.
