“The completion of this project will be a significant milestone for the State of Chile. Currently, Antarctica only has satellite connectivity solutions, so connecting this territory through technology such as fiber optics will allow us to strengthen the scientific research of all those who are currently making great contributions to knowledge from this territory. But for that, we need the information that this study will provide us, to evaluate all types of variables and make the best decisions for the completion of this project,” said the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya San Martín. The study will examine and is expected to address an optimal route for the submarine cable and the technical solution for the project, seeking to respect the applicable environmental regulations. It is also likely to outline in detail the potential risks of the project and its possible negative and positive impacts, as well as making recommendations and suggesting ways to mitigate risks and challenges.
