Ltd. wherein he shares about the specialised products and technological advancements of the company along with his outlook on the steel sector.

Wire & Cable India: Could you please take us through the business journey of your company?

Mrinmoy Sarkar: Miki Group started its journey way back in 1978 at Ranchi, Jharkhand, and thereafter to cater to the need for steel wires in South India, Miki Steel was established in Bangalore in 1992. Since then, we are catering to the needs of the region.

WCI: Tell us about some of your specialised products along with their USPs.

MS: We are catering to the need for reinforcement Prestressed Concrete (PC) steel for railway sleeper manufacturing, electricity board poles to take part in the distribution of electricity – ‘Gaon Gaon Mein Vidyut’. Our reinforcement PC steel is also used for high mast round transmission poles suitable in the coastal areas to withstand the force of a tsunami, and devastating cyclones like Hudhud and ready-made concrete piles which make the in-site piling time shorter.

We ventured into LRPC strand manufacturing a few years back and became one of the trusted suppliers in infrastructural activities like highways, irrigation, railway bridges, road bridges, shopping mall, stadiums, flyovers, Metro railway, etc.

WCI: What are the top prestigious projects for which your company has supplied products?

MS: We supplied LRPC to border roads organisation project in Assam, railway bridges in Tamil Nadu for Southern Railway, flyover projects in Chennai Municipality, a port project in Tamil Nadu, lift irrigation project in Karnataka, Mumbai-Nagpur super expressway in Maharashtra, Bangalore Metro, dedicated freight corridor project in Mumbai coast, Stadium in Tumkur under the ‘Smart City’ project and so on.

We supplied wires for making concrete hume pipes for water transportation for long distances. We are also making spring wire for different applications ranging from mattress to car spring and shock absorber for two-wheelers.

WCI: What are your targets for the next two years with regard to market reach, R&D and technological advancements?

MS: We would like to cater to the infrastructure sector by providing more LRPC strands and manufacturing high tensile spring wires including induction hardened spring wire.

WCI: Kindly share your outlook on the Indian steel sector.

MS: I foresee a substantial increase in steel item production in view of infrastructural spending by the Government of India. The per capita steel consumption will be enhanced markedly for better connectivity with a short time and to develop high-speed trains like bullet trains along with Metro railways in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, apart from the defence item manufacturing. Simultaneously, we need to be cautious about our environmental protection in line with increased steel output.
