With a massive push for India’s ambitious renewable energy, India witnessed a solar energy generation capacity growth by 12-fold to 2.488 GW in the April-June period in 2021 compared to the same period a year ago.
As per a research report by Mercom India, the solar capacity addition in India in the said time period was 19 percent quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) more than the 2.09 GWs of capacity installed in the span of January-March 2021.

It is also noteworthy that the solar capacity addition in April-June 2021 is the highest in any quarter since the same period in 2018. This has been achieved in spite of many state-level lockdowns due to the second wave of the pandemic. Further, the solar installations have grown by 1,114% year-over-year as compared to the addition of 205 MW in Q2 of 2020.
In the said research report, it was stated that the installations and the growth were because of the targeted lockdowns imposed this year, allowing the solar power industry to manage in a much better way.
