The company’s latest steel wire plant will have a capacity to manufacture 1500-2000 metric tonnes per month. It will entitle an investment of approximately 35 crores.
Mr. Abhay Bhutoria, Managing Director, RTS Power Corporation Ltd. sheds light on the technical and manufacturing capabilities of the company, the product range offered, their recent expansion of the galvanized steel wire capabilities and their key strengths in an exclusive interview given to Wire & Cable India.
Wire & Cable India: Tell us about RTS Power Corporation. Take us through the journey of the company.
Abhay Bhutoria: Starting its journey in the year 1971, RTS Power Corporation Limited hails from the prestigious house of the Bhutoria Group. With a business legacy of over 100 years spread across 4 Generations to date, the House of Bhutoria has been a pioneer in whichever business area it has ventured into. From the deserts of Rajasthan to the marshy jute fields of Bengal, and now to the Highlands of Ethiopia, the Group has had a long and enterprising journey.
From the time of its inception, RTS Power has been in the forefront of providing reliable power-conversion and power quality solutions, over time it has steadfastly emerged as the forerunner of the Bhutoria stable.
Beginning its journey from its first transformer unit at Jaipur under the name of Rajasthan Transformers and Switchgears, RTS stands tall as one of the leading manufacturers of power, distribution, extra high voltage and dry-type transformers in India.
Every facility of RTS is powered up with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment needed to churn out top-of-the-line-products in the power arena.
Over time, the company has diversified its product mix to include critical products in the T&D eco-system such as overhead conductors, insulated cables, railway signaling cables, and its latest offering of galvanized steel wires. All of its products are known for high quality and adherence to the highest quality standards both National and International.
WCI: Share with us your technical and production capabilities. What kind of manufacturing setup do you have?
AB: Every facility of RTS is powered up with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment needed to churn out top-of-the-line-products in the power arena. Our every product is subjected to stringent quality standards. And, by having the means and resources to undertake everything right from slitting, cutting of CRGO core to tank fabrication at every factory; RTS ensures that there is minimal external dependency and to bring out products of paramount quality. For instance, our Jaipur facility is equipped with the necessary infrastructure to manufacture quality cables, conductors and house wires. Right from copper drawing, annealing to finished product, everything is processed in-house. At present, we have 6 facilities in India and Africa; and our 7th facility is going to be set up soon.
Our biggest advantage as a group which has been in business over a hundred years is our legacy of being a highly ethical organization with high moral values.

WCI: As you have recently added galvanized steel wire capacity. Please tell us more about the project (project location, capacity, investment, commercial start-up, machineries installed, key suppliers etc.)?
AB: Steel wire is the latest venture from our group. This venture has been decided keeping in view the growing infrastructural spending in India. The demand from both the T&D space as well as the infrastructural sector should provide us with sufficient room for scaling up in this sector.
The plant is fully automatic, ultra-modern facility that is being setup to manufacture galvanized steel wires and strips. The plant has been designed in a manner such that it can accommodate double capacity in the future. There is a provision to make a new structure right next to the existing one. In fact, the land size is large enough for 8 to 10 such lines in the future.
The present features such as ETP, cooling tower and the necessary equipment has been installed keeping in mind the future expansion. The plant is being setup in the Shree Khatushyamji Industrial Area (Reengus), adjacent to Jaipur. The plant will have a capacity to manufacture 1500-2000 metric tonnes per month. It will entitle an investment of approximately 35 Crores. The entire amount will be met through our internal accruals and we will only look to finance our working capital requirements from banks.
Our immediate goal is to stabilize ourselves in our new venture of steel wires.
Initially to start with, we will be installing one Galvanizing Line, three Wire Drawing Machines and one Strip making machine. We will source our raw materials from prominent steel OEM’s such as SAIL, TATA Steel, JINDAL Steel and Vedanta.
WCI: Detail us about the grades you intend to manufacture with new capacity, which markets you intend to serve with this new production?
AB: The northern and western Indian states of Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Maharashtra are the cable and conductor manufacturing hubs in the country. We have strategically located our plant close to these markets. We intend to serve cable manufacturers who require armoring strips/wires and conductor manufacturers who require steel wire for ACSR conductors. There are many other downstream manufacturers who we intend to serve, such as fencing, barbed wire and wire-mesh manufacturers.
WCI: What are your key strengths?
AB: Our biggest advantage as a group which has been in business over a hundred years is our legacy of being a highly ethical organization with high moral values. Our reputation and credibility with the Government, customers and vendors give us a strong foundation upon which we never back down from starting any new venture. We have a team of highly skilled and dedicated professionals who work with us and therefore give us the confidence to face any challenging situation which may arise.
As a group, we have always preferred to plough back our profits and use our own internal resources rather than borrow excessively from banks. This has provided us with immense financial strength to tide over difficult times such as these, due to reduced pressure of repayments and interest costs.
WCI: What are your goals for the future?
AB: Our immediate goal is to stabilize ourselves in our new venture of steel wires. While we are very well known for our transformers and cables, this being our first venture in the steel sector, we face the challenge of establishing ourselves in this industry given the highly competitive nature of the sector.
WCI: Is there anything else that you would like to add to this interaction?
AB: Moving forward, we are continuously looking for opportunities in the engineering and equipment manufacturing space and we would like to collaborate with the technology leaders in this field.
