History and Crucial Milestones
Fort Gloster has its roots in the jute manufacturing business. Started as Fort Gloster Jute Manufacturing Company Limited in 1873, we laid our foundation and secured a strategic and picturesque location along the Ganges, the former garrison of Fort Gloster, to establish our jute factory.
In 1958, the old mill was dismantled, giving rise to the formation of the cable division, Fort Gloster Industries Limited, in collaboration with the esteemed cable group M/S British Insulated Callenders Co. Ltd., U.K. (BICC), diversified into manufacturing of electric wires and cables.
1979 emerged with technological advancements, by the implementation of the first radial curing process to produce high voltage, XLPE cables. This pioneering endeavor involved collaboration with Sumitomo Electric, Japan, and the acquisition of a cutting-edge CCV line from Japan.
In 1992, the Jute Division underwent a strategic demerger, emerging as a distinct entity known as Gloster Jute Mills Limited, later re-branded as Gloster Limited.
A significant moment in the company’s history, leadership transition happened in 1999, Shri GD Bangur relinquished the role of Chairman, entrusting the reins of management and control to Shri S.K. Bangur.
Facing challenges in 2003, the company was admitted to BIFR (Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction), leading to a temporary cessation of plant operations.
In 2020, Fort Gloster Industries Limited underwent a transformative period with its reacquisition by Gloster Limited, now helmed by Shri Hemant Bangur, the son of the late Gopal Das Bangur.
In 2021-2022, a sweeping transformation was set in motion, encompassing the modernization and revitalization of the entire manufacturing facility. This entailed expanding the factory premises, phasing out outdated machinery, and installing cutting-edge, state-of-the-art equipment.

This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with a range of advanced machinery, including wire drawing machine, stranding machine, insulation extrusion machine, laying up machine, sheathing machine, and armoring machine.
To ensure the highest quality standards, the company has established a world-class laboratory equipped with sophisticated instruments such as the profile projector, hot set testing apparatus, torsion tester, HCL gas emission test apparatus, oxygen & temperature index test apparatus, and smoke density testing setup, among others. This advanced line is equipped with SAG Control and SIKORA technology, ensuring the delivery of top-tier quality products for our customers.
