Ørsted has contracted CRP Subsea to supply NjordGuard cable protection systems for two major offshore wind projects in Taiwan. The agreement includes the delivery and installation of 142 NjordGuard units.

CRP Subsea has secured a significant contract to supply its cutting-edge NjordGuard cable protection system for two major offshore wind projects in Taiwan. Ørsted, a global leader in renewable energy, has selected CRP’s innovative solution to safeguard the critical inter-array and export cables of the Greater Changhua 2b & 4 offshore wind farms. This agreement includes the delivery and installation of 142 NjordGuard units, ensuring comprehensive protection for the wind farms’ crucial electrical infrastructure.

CRP Subsea will produce the 142 NjordGuards in its purpose-built manufacturing facility in the North West of England. This industry-leading facility has a state-of-the-art semi-automated production line that significantly increases production capacity. The engineering works of the project will commence immediately, with installation activities scheduled for execution in 2024. The Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms will have approximately 65 wind turbines with an individual capacity of 14 MW. Both wind farms are situated 35 and 60 kilometers off the west coast of Changhua County, Taiwan. The wind farms are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

NjordGuard is an integrated cable protection system designed and developed to protect offshore wind farm power cables in wind turbine generators and offshore substation platforms. It features API-qualified abrasion and bend protection materials and can be deployed within a monopile or J-tube interface. Easily assembled on a vessel to allow speedy installation, its highly abrasion-resistant API 17L certified Uraduct® material enables the protection system to travel over the seabed without damage, thereby protecting the cable system. Most importantly, it facilitates easier installation, reuse, and removal without diver and ROV intervention, optimizing efficiency and maximizing safety.
