SETIC also has a dedicated department, C2S, taking care of wire and cable production lines, and acting as an overall efficiency booster to restore machine productivity, and product quality. In a recent interaction with Wire & Cable India, Mr. Médéric FAMEAU, Sales Area Manager, SETIC and POURTIER, talked about the business journeys of SETIC and POURTIER, manufacturing capabilities, recent developments, major USP, and the company’s goals for the Indian wire and cable industry.
Wire & Cable India: Kindly tell us about the business journeys of SETIC and POURTIER, outlining the major milestones and achievements.
Médéric FAMEAU: SETIC and POURTIER focus their core business on manufacturing eco-friendly rotating machinery. We are a French based company (members of the French Fab), and are exporting everywhere in the world. Since 1948, SETIC has been a leader in special data communication, AI, robotics, aerospace and automotive cables. Since 1860, POURTIER has been producing heavy-duty rotating machines to produce all types of power cables: overhead, land, submarine, high voltage and extra-high voltage. To achieve a higher level of performance and extended lifetime of the machines, a comprehensive range of services is also available through our C2S customer services department, which is the ideal partner to maintain machines’ productivity and enhance product quality. Our BOW technology makes high graded carbon bows for all sizes and all brands of double twist equipment.

WCI: Could you walk us through the manufacturing facilities, infrastructure and machinery setup along with the production capacity of SETIC and POURTIER?
MF: SETIC and POURTIER machines are 100% Europe-made. We have two locations in France, a workshop and office close to Lyon in Roanne, and an office in Paris, Lognes. Innovation, quality and high productivity are the key notes of our portfolio. Our brands, developed by highly skilled teams of engineers based in France, are offering value-added processes & solutions for optimized wire & cable production. Our C2S team of experienced & skill-ed engineers are traveling for comm-issioning services all over the world.
WCI: Please elaborate on the respective product ranges of SETIC & POURTIER’s machinery division, emphasizing on their features, applications and advantages.
MF: Our machinery division includes double twist bunchers from 560mm to 800mm with bunching of 7, 19, 37 wires or multi wires bunch; double/triple twist solution for twinners and quadders; group twinners to ensure production of high grade LAN cable; single twist stranders/cablers from 630mm to 1250mm designed with latest technologies for high speed cabling of quality cables; large single twist stranders/cablers from 1250mm to 2500mm. We can also provide dual single twist lines which are very versatile and give a full flexibility in laying-up, stranding and wire armouring process. In addition to this, we also have large double twist stranders from 1000mm to 2000mm; rigid stranders; multiwire rigid screening lines; planetary stranders; concentric stranders; drum twisters from 1600mm to 5000mm; taping or armouring machines; and laboratory machines high precision slicing.
WCI: What are the ongoing or recent developments at your company?
MF: We keep developing our machinery responding to the demand of the market. Dedicated to HVAC/HVDC technology, POURTIER has developed rigid stranders and drum twisters, 10 years ahead for HV and EHV. Our machines have produced the conductors with the largest sections of 4000mm² and the latest developments are in the process of producing HVDC cables up to 5000mm² including Capstan 80 tons. In addition to the HV, the world needs to route the energy in MV. For this we have developed our SETIC large double twists 2600 mm to boost productivity up to 61 wires (500mm² AL / 400 mm² CU).
WCI: What according to you are the major USPs contributing to the company’s growth in India?
MF: India has always been a privileged market for SETIC and POURTIER. Top Indian players have trusted us for more than 30 years, placing repeat orders for our quality machinery. Our force is to be able to supply complete technical solutions through providing machines, commissioning processes which give full guarantee to our customers. SETIC and POURTIER are worldwide manufacturers for non-ferrous cables. We are a unique supplier dedicated for twisting and cabling machines, with a worldwide presence in all market segments from very small applications such as special, LAN automotive up to heavy duty large applications for submarine, HV and EHV cables.

WCI: Could you tell us about the company’s customer service division C2S (Cable Services and Systems), and how it helps SETIC and POURTIER cater to its customers?
MF: Our C2S department takes care of all wire and cable production lines, irrespective of the brand of the rotating equipment. 70,000 spare parts references are distributed worldwide. A team of highly qualified technicians is continuously trained to manage troubleshooting and urgent repairs, and the division also offers dedicated services such as periodical visit contracts, transfer and restart operations, training and consulting. C2S is being assigned upgrading projects on all brands of wire and cable equipment, also for special and customized projects like mechanical or electrical interventions, or process improvements with know-how transfer. The BOW technology remains the right partner for everyone concerned, by providing a higher level of performance and extended lifetime of double twist equipment. A wide range of state of the art bows is available for different kinds of productions like pairing or quadding of insulated cables, automotive or special bare copper conductors, and copper or aluminum cords. The exclusive and patented GreenBow2+ enables high energy savings for bunchers, and simplifies a lot of maintenance operations. C2S proposes industry 4.0 innovations, especially on the Al learning system to monitor deviations and predict failures. This system can equip new machines and can also be installed on older wire and cable production lines.
WCI: How does SETIC and POURTIER foresee the Indian wires and cables market growing in the future? What is the company’s strategy to further strengthen its presence in the Indian market?
MF: Being one of the most populated countries, and still showing a strong demographic development, India will continue to invest in energy, infrastruc-tures and automotive market over the coming years. As a leader supplier for the cable industry in data and power, we want to be the partners of the Indian growth and development. India is part of the Asia-Pacific region which domin-ates the market owing to the growth application of wire & cable in the energy industry, which increases the demand to produce these kinds of cables and the need in machinery. India is also witne-ssing the construction of power plants, therefore the wire and cable market requirement is expected to increase in the field of energy cables. POURTIER manufactures machines dedicated for HVAC/HVDC power cables, Milliken, and submarines to connect its customers to all kinds of energy.
India is also seeing an increase in residential and industrial construction projects, which is likely to increase the consumption of wires and cables. SETIC understands very well the challenges of its customers and has adapted and developed its product portfolio to offer its customers- solutions adapted in terms of ethernet cables, IIOT, robotics and others.
The automotive market is booming all over the world, and India will definitely be part of it. India is expected to be the world’s third largest automotive market by volume by 2030. The electric vehicle market is expected to grow by 49% between 2022 and 2030, the needs in terms of EV charging cables, data cables and battery cables will be huge. For all these reasons Indian cable manufacturers will need appropriate machines to support this growth in demand. In relation to these needs and opportunities, we have all types of rotating machines, expertise and adequate know-how as well as the associated services and we intend to continue and increase our market share in the Indian market.
