MNRE: India’s Installed Renewable Energy Capacity Crosses 150 GW

The government is now aiming to attain 175 GW capacity of renewable energy by 2022, including 100 GW of solar, 60 GW of wind, 10 GW of small hydro and 5 GW of biomass-based power projects. In October this year, the country had an installed solar energy capacity of 46.25 GW.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced that it has achieved a noteworthy milestone of – crossing the 150 GW of installed renewable energy capacity including – hydro energy.

In October 2021, the ministry had informed the addition of 1,522.35 MW of renewable energy capacity. This has enhanced the total renewable energy capacity of the country to 103.05 GW.

MNRE had announced that the country’s installed renewable energy capacity, including large hydro, had touched 146 GW, and 100 GW excluding large hydro, in August this year.

In addition, MNRE Minister RK Singh had told Rajya Sabha that India had installed 46.25 GW of grid-connected solar energy as of October 31, 2021.

As per the MNRE, projects of 50.98 GW capacities were at various stages of completion and the projects of 32.06 GW capacities were under various stages of bidding. The ministry further added that the 103.05 GW capacities included 39.99 GW of wind, 47.66 GW of solar, 4.82 GW of small hydro capacity, and 10.58 GW of biopower.
